I haven't read Kierkegaard and can't vouch for this particular book, but I have found these "Very Short Introduction" books useful when getting into a new area or author. Having not read philosophy for a while, I've lost the knack for it. But do I feel that I understand Kierkegaard better for reading it? After reading the preface to Either/Or, as soon as I began the “Diapsalmata,” the section from which I draw the following excerpts, I was struck. We didn't trade email addresses, as neither of us had one of those either. When Kierkegaard wrote of these spheres, as ultimately achieved in his writing Postscript, but also explained in his earlier works Either/Or and Stages, he did not intend to have the reader understand these spheres as stages which . In the 33rd chapter of the Book of Job,. And the culmination of these impressions, gleaned while reading the “Diapsalmata” and upon finishing it, Either/Or as a compilation of two “found texts,” arranged and published by an unnamed editor (Preface). (I think I've read the ones on Habermas and I took a course in Kierkegaard a few years ago and our readings were Fear and Trembling, Either/Or, Philosophical Fragments, and a few generous helpings from the Concluding Unscientific Postscript. The editor refers to the first set of writing as the writings of “A,” in light of the fact that he has no name for the author. Yes I'd most certainly recommend this book. Either/Or, Part I (Kierkegaard's Writings, 3) by Søren Kierkegaard Paperback 4.8 out of 5 stars . I read this anthology as part of my daily Lenten discipline because I wanted to immerse myself in some spiritual writing that required serious concentration.
